Planetary / Batman Deluxe Edition

“Planetary, the archaeologists of the unknown, cross paths with Batman on the trail of a killer in this new, Deluxe Edition hardcover. When Planetary – Jakita Wagner, Elijah Snow and the Drummer – travel to Gotham City, they mean business. Wagner, Snow and the Drummer track an amoral killer to Gotham City, prepared for battle. What they aren’t prepared for is the Dark Knight! Of course, Batman doesn’t exist on the same Earth as Planetary, which means the killer has worked in some very strange ways! Now the killer’s reality-distorting technology is pulling, twisting and shifting the heroes through untold versions of Gotham City – and Batman! This new hardcover also features Warren Ellis’s script for this story.”

I reasonably enjoyed Planetary when I bought up all the back issues around the time Issue 27 came out, so I figured my love of Batman meant I should get this Deluxe Edition.
I must confess I am quite disappointed, not so much with the story or art, but the price. Sure you get the larger format and the script by Ellis, it’s just that after reading it, I was underwhelmed. At $22.99, you don’t get much for your cash. The original “Presige Format” book now demands reasonable money, but I think DC would have been better served by putting it out in the same format that Wildstorm Presents Planetary Lost Worlds was reprinted in (at $7.99).
